G’day, how’s it goin?

I’m Cal, an Art Director from Sydney (actually Wollongong, but who cares). Art direction is how I wrangle my obsession with photography, design, illustration, music, and film into a nice, neat little career. My blog, Art Directors Can’t Write, is another outlet for those passions—a place where I attempt to compile an eloquent combination of words on creativity in advertising and culture.

I value the human touch and embrace imperfections; they’re the tell-tale signs work was made with hands and not just a prompt-hungry robot. That said, I’m no Luddite. I’m comfortable using a wide range of generative AI tools to enhance my creative capacity. Over the last two years, I’ve run AI workshops and staff training across the agency, helping our team master these tools so we can spend less time on the tedious and more time on the craft.

Like most creative professionals, I’ve long since made peace with my caffeine addiction. Give me a buzz if you’re up for a good brew and an even better yarn.
